This position requires office presence of 75% or more of working hours.  There will be occasional site work required in the interest of problem-solving, project scope and commissioning, training and other work as directed by Controls Engineer.  The position will build panels, calibrate devices and learn programming/hardware.  This position is expected to understand financial goals of his/her projects.


  • Use and understand financial reports to ensure financial goals/responsibility designated by PLC and cGxp Controls Engineering Manager are met.

  • Develop relationships—internally and externally—to ensure financial goals can be met and have growth potential.

  • Understand project requirements to meet customer needs and financial goals of all projects.

  • Use new technology and develop implementation to overall departmental offerings as a means to meet customer needs and as new revenue streams.

  • Ensure PLC specifications, designs, programming standards and implementation and verify those standards are being met.

  • Ensure GAMP/cGxP procedures and testing implementation is being adhered to.

  • Understand growth systems for direct reports and how professional development and training efforts are being met.

  • Understand departmental position training programs and how they are used for direct reports.

  • Ensure departmental SOP is adhered to.

  • Understand how to schedule direct reports to work on projects.

  • Understand how quality of work of direct reports impacts quality goals.

  • Understand how corporate employee reviews are completed for direct reports.

  • Report daily schedules to Controls Engineer.

  • Ensure Company Safety Policies are adhered to.

  • Attend project start and completion meeting as required to discuss:

  • Project scope

  • Timelines

  • Lessons Learned

  • Attend weekly/monthly meetings as required to discuss:

  • Project status

  • Department status      

  • Review FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) documents, as required.

  • Review SAT (Site Acceptance Test) documents, as required.

  • Ensure site projects are completed on time, under or at budget and with 100% customer satisfaction.

  • Assist in development of software and graphics to meet project requirements.

  • Ensure panel and field hardware is built/installed to project requirements.

  • Assist in commissioning/testing activities.


  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and P&ID’s is desirable .

  • Ability to read financial reports is desirable.

  • Understanding of data center and facility infrastructure desirable.

  • Experience in a heavily regulated cGxP environment is desirable.

  • Experience in mechanical and systems engineering is desireable.

  • Experience in Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software engineering is desirable.

  • Experience in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Historian ME/SE, View ME/SE, AssetCentre, VantagePoint software and server based engineering is desirable.

  • Must be a highly motivated individual, possessing time management skills and ability to multitask

  • Must provide timely responses to questions

  • Must be accessible by phone when problems arise or have an acceptable alternative when in environment that phone access is not available.

  • Lead by example.

  • Can work independently without supervision and is also capable of working within a team environment.
