Envirotrol is currently pursuing a Niagara Software Engineer.  The candidate must be willing to work as part of a project team to meet project deadlines and budget.  The position will be based in Greensboro, NC with more work at the Envirotrol office.  Remote connections will be first attempted through Customer provided access or through Envirotrol cellular routers temporarily located at project sites.  Site visits will be required occasionally.  Currently, less than 25% of travel is required but fluctuates based on awarded contracts.  As a member of the Controls Engineering team, this hands-on role will work on development, testing, programming, integration and implementation of control and/or monitoring solutions for critical building systems such as chiller plants, air handling units, electrical management/monitoring, generators, boilers, pumps and motors.


  • Generate Software sequences based on project sequence of operation.

  • Assist in some cases to develop the system sequences of operation.

  • Commission Controllers using default and project specific software modules.

  • Load default user accounts.

  • Ensure common versions of Niagara software are being used.

  • Integrate to various protocols:

    • Modbus

    • Bacnet

    • Lonworks

    • Other 3rd Party

  • Communicate with Project Manager to understand time commitments.

  • Communicate with Hardware to understand design requirements.

  • Communicate with Graphics Engineer to ensure clear data interpretation.

  • Collaborate with team and follow Senior Software Engineer best practices.

  • Assist in further development of best practices.

  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from other regarding errors, problems, or questions about the system including controls, hardware and programs.

  • Work with others (customers, supervisors, programmers, field personnel) to gather information relating to changes to functions and features of control systems.

  • Assist in O&M development for training of associates, equipment operators, and supervisors on system operation; Trains end users or technical support staff to use programs and procedures.


  • Have a two year mechanical or electrical degree.  Five years of field work in the environment will be considered as equivalent.

  • Have a thorough understanding of HVAC Systems and common sequences for equipment.

  • Proficient experience with design of Niagara AX platforms.

  • Be proficient in Microsoft office Word and Excel.

  • Proficient experience with various field hardware including (but not limited to) VFD's, motor starters, RTD's, various transmitters/transducers.

  • Experience in reading P&IDs, electrical schematics and construction drawings.

  • Proficient experience in networks including (but not limited to) Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Modbus RTU/TCP, Bacnet, Lonworks and gateway devices.

  • Basic networking knowledge. (IP addressing, subnetting, router setup)

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Thorough knowledge of Distech Controls Products.

  • Knowledge of other controls platforms.

  • Networking certifications:  A+, Network+, Security+
